The one question I always get asked when clients come in to discuss engagement rings is: How much should I be spending on the ring? The answer is, there is no right or wrong answer! Here's why...
In today's modern world the old rule that you should be spending at least three months salary on an engagement ring absolutely does not need to be followed. I have had clients spend $1,500 on their engagement ring, and clients who have spent $20,000 or more on their ring. You have to do what is comfortable for you!
A lot of my clients fear that they aren't getting a big enough stone, or that the quality of the diamond isn't good enough because of their budget but you have to think about it like this: everyone has a budget and a number that they can afford, so maybe if quality and clarity are important you give a little on the size of the diamond or if size is most important you give on clarity. You have to do what fits your style best.
The important thing to remember through the process is that your engagement ring is the one part of the engagement/wedding planning process that will last forever. You will wear your ring everyday, so no matter what your budget is you want to decide on a timeless piece that you will love forever!
